So many of the things that we work on are shaped by the light that graces it. The relationship between light, medium, and artist is important—it affects the way we feel about the artifacts we handle. Shift is an exploration of light and color in space. Simply move the track-pad to change hue, saturation, or push down on the track-pad to take in ambient light.

Shift is a lamp made intelligent for designers, crafts-people, and artists. It is an exercise in order and sequence; a quiet choreography of electronic decisions made to turn on with movement, to dim at dusk, and to adapt to a user's preferences. It is designed to both receive input manually and sense the surrounding environment to change the ways we experience color, light, and space.
Interaction with the large track-pad is a way for users to dictate which hues should be displayed—brightness and color controlled by automated reading of the surrounding environment, through an array of embedded sensors. Shift up to increase saturation, left and right to cycle through various hues. The top of the lamp features a color sensor that can replicate and project any color of an object held against it—perfect for fabric swatches or grabbing inspiration from the world around you.
The lamp is designed to be sleek in form, with elongated armatures and a geometric head; rounded motifs drawing parallels with the design of a magnifying glass. All hinged joints are held in a tension grip, in an effort to minimize visual clutter and promote easy interaction.
