The Confederation of Indian Industries and the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad recently had an International Design Summit in New Delhi, India on the 4th and 5th of December 2006. The pre-pre conference events began with a lovely farmhouse barbecue on the night of Saturday the 2nd of December at the home of Hari Nair, Director, Whirlpool Global Consumer Design Asia Studios, continuing on to a rooftop party sponsored Indian business house, the Jindals, on the night of the 3rd.

Of note was Nikhil Tripathi's feedback to Indian design industry. Shown above, Nikhil works with Proctor & Gamble's Asia Pacific region and his insights from the client side were powerful. The three key things important for all design studios were understanding 1. The Market 2. The Business and finally, 3. The Fiscal responsiblities.

At the conference with Sanjiv Bothra, designer, educator and meditator, on the left and Sridhar Marri, Associate Vice President and Head - Communication Design Group Infosys Technologies Ltd, both graduates from NID.

Ignacio Germade, Design Director, Consumer Experience Design, Motorola UK and Singapore presents the ethnographic research and design planning that went into the creation of the Motophone, specially for the Indian market.

Uday Dandavate, Founder and Principal, SonicRim, Global Design Research, who led the organization for this conference. There will be a follow up in New York City on the 5th of February under the aegis of the Asia Society.

The final event, Suresh Venkat, Executive Producer, Special Projects, CNBC conducted an incisive and live interview of key Indian professionals from the design industry, the government and academia on the future of India's design industry.
