Design is a critical element of innovation. So why, asks the Irish Times today, is Ireland lagging behind?
"Good design is good business, and yet industry seems slow to grasp the opportunities it offers. Reports, such as last year's Forfás report "Skills in Creativity Design and Innovation", continue to make the point that "creativity and design are key drivers of innovation, which is in turn a key driver of productivity growth". same question for south Europe. Why are Spain and Portugal not investing in creating good design, creativity, innovation policies backed by their governments? Why so much aversion? Speacilly here in Portugal the gov prefers to bust all money on TGV trains and new airport or highways instead of investing on education, innovation, etc. Design is seen as an art (in a bad way).
Maybe it is because they are happy with whatever niche they are raking revenues from. Services is the top growth industry this days.
