Okay folks, this is as close as the design world will ever get to Game of Thrones: Not one, but two major design organizations are currently seeking a new king or queen. Both the IDSA and the DMI recently saw the departure of their leaders, with the former org's CEO Clive Roux stepping down a week ago and Karen Reuther, the latter group's leader, resigning as President around the same time.
You smell that power vacuum? Like any George R.R. Martin fan, upon hearing the news I had fantasies of ICSID invading the offices of the IDSA and DMI, backed by an army of designers swinging CAD mice over their head like morningstars. Autodesk users would try to stamp out Solidworks jockeys. The AIA would fight the AIGA, though the latter would have better posters and logos. Engineers, marketers and design critics would all be sent to The Wall.
Okay, fine, I know the design world doesn't work that way and I sound a little silly, you don't have to be a jerk about it. The bottom line is there are two design organization crowns up for grabs. Who will step up to claim them?
You reckon they did these in AutoCAD or Solidworks?
