Core77 Design Awards
There's less than a month left to enter your work in the 2014 Core77 Design Awards program. The entry period closes on March 20th, but there's plenty of time to put together a submission. To give you that extra push of motivation, we're going to feature a number of past winners in the next couple of weeks.
First up, we've got a 2011 Consumer Products/Equipment winner, "Load Carrier for Labour." We chatted with designer Vikram Dinubhai Panchal to see what the life has been like post-awards. Read on to see what winning has done for him and submit your own entry!
Core77: How has Load Carrier for Labor grown since winning a Core77 Design Award? How has your professional life advanced since winning?
Vikram Dinubhai Panchal: I found out when I received an e-mail from a student at National Institute of Design in India. I feel that even if I may not teach design that my students always find interesting, I certainly inspire them.
Winning has sent a message that design for social relevance plays a major role, globally. This has completely opened a new venue for me as an industrial designer to share new ideas, innovations and industrial designs around the world. I have received many enquiries for the Load Carrier for Labor for use and commercialization from various sources. The Load Carrier for Labor design has been further refined and explored for manufacturing opportunities.
What have you been most proud of when it comes to your submission?
I feel proud to be an Indian who is bringing to light the need (and a design solution) of the underprivileged society, which has been observed and appreciated in many ways.
Have you created or taken on any new projects since the Design Awards?
Since the Core77 Design Awards, I participated in the 2012 program in the DIY category and received a Notable mention for my project "Torch." Recently, I sent in my entry for the 2014 competition. I've been busy creating many self-initiated innovations and designs and I will continue to carry out this tradition.
If you had to choose one reason why other designers should enter the program, what would it be? What advice do you have for current entrants and young designers in general?
The Core77 Design Awards is a globally renowned platform to share the creations and innovations in many categories for all with global jury members from worldwide.
