As ID becomes an in-demand and more recognized profession, we observe schools shaping their curriculum to cater to very specific areas of concentration. Lighting Design and Retail Design are two brand new Master's degree programs to be available beginning May 2007 at Politecnico di Milano, Consorzio Poli.Design and Scuola Politecnica di Design. The focused instruction allows the student to gain a complete understanding and skill set of one main component of ID rather than absorbing ID as a whole, and to less benefit, only becoming somewhat proficient in every aspect of the field.
