The desire to bring closer the realms of design and of politics, two areas fundamentally connected to each other but often divided by ignorance, misunderstanding and prejudice, was one of the major motives behind the making of the special issue of "Re-Public - Re-Imagining Democracy", entitled Distributed Creativity and Design.
The common thread is the changing role of the designer and the challenges posed to design professionals by the new conditions. We live in a time of transition, and creativity thrives in times and places of transition. The authors emphasize the role of designers in engaging the community, in facilitating but not patronizing, in acting as a link not a leader.
