For the design department of the HAWK in Hildesheim digital is [for sale]. A wall of app. 600 wooden pixels features pieces of student works that can be purchased and replaced with a personal drawing pixel-by-pixel (the wall just changed while you were reading...)
Unlike the toilet signs suggest, digital is more than living in a pixilated world. Epiphytes, is a so called 'polymorphic breeding furniture' by Dan Pearlman exhibited at the CREATE BERLIN showroom. The furniture concept seems to be a crossover of interior design and botanical gardening.
Also, DESIGNMAI's central exhibition, where Digitalability is highlighted, is less about hard coding and more about organisms and growth, for instance Tord Boontje's laser cut ornaments.
Design student Martin Guentert presents an approach for custom eyewear. His mass customization system translates a 3D scan of the users face into finished sports glasses with a perfect fit. A welcome change on the surrounding rapid prototyping chairs and lamps.
At the same time the DESIGNMAY Youngsters are doing a 96-hour design marathon with over 100 international designers at an old factory site in East Berlin - more on their 'Digital
