Saturday, under a sunny sky we head our way to Berlin Kreuzberg where the DESIGNMAI Youngsters present their works during a 96-hour design marathon in a huge factory hall.
Within the arena, analog pop-ups suddenly block our way - luckily the 'screen' disappears when we hit the red [x] to find ourselves in front of an 'analog internet' with chat room and cigarette smoking search engine by Turbine designers.Interaction continues at Admir Jukanovic, who brings some light in the room with a new species of lamps where a traditional on-off switch has been transformed into a voodoo-like interface. Not that much further, an anonymous robotic chair chasing older ladies - no worries - but the chairs means no harm.
No harm, just the "retired tank" by Retired Weapons who are using the power of design to spread peace. The blooming flower functions as a friendly sign for dialogue and bringing people together. A relaxed atmosphere with lots of designers on location makes the arena an entertaining area where stories come with a smile.
The DMY organization provides all exhibitors a shopping platform for visitors and design colleagues to update their design collection and hereby lightening up the luggage of about 100 international designers on show for one more day.
