The latest edition of shift.jp just dropped and Yurie Hatano reports on the "Ice Village" in Tomamu, a popular winter resort in Hokkaido, Japan. Massive ice domes (up to 15 meters in diameter) are constructed by spraying ice and snow onto a big balloon with vinyl sheets and ropes, a technique researched and developed by Tsutomu Kokawa who teaches at Hokkaido Tokai University. The biggest ice dome they have built has a diameter of 30 meters.
