With "merhaba" for "hello", we say hi to this year's Istanbul Design Week. Since Tuesday, designers are presenting their latest works for visitors from Istanbul and abroad. The event traditionally takes place at the Old Galata Bridge, a historic piece of industrial design itself which is transformed into a colorful design hotspot along the Halic river.

The three Turkish designers from the 389g design collective enjoy transforming raw materials, unfinished products or even junk into furniture, lighting and other products. The best thing is that their recycled works are finished so well, they have the looks of brand new products.

Cut, stick, fold, crush. The design week is about seeing and doing. Here, EFES presents some of the workshop results where beer cans are made into well crafted sculptures and objects.

We talk with Yeonju Yang who has been working with Cladio Ripol on the Spiral Series. A research on the possibilities with laser cutting led to this sweet and simple concept for invisible grips. After Istanbul, we'll see her products at the London Design Festival.

With 8 years young, Can Demirel is probably the youngest and most dedicated Turkish designer we meet. He doesn't like camera's but loves cars and has set himself to become a car designer (remember this name). The many reddish LEGO bricks make clear that Ferrari is one of his favorite brands. When we tell him that Paolo Pininfarina will speak in one hour at the IDW conference hall, he smiles at his mother for walk upstairs to meet his design star.
