Featured Forum Topic of the Day: Better ideas vs. better presentations?

I have been seeing and reading several posts/articles that give me a sense that there may be a difference of opinion among designers. It seems to me that some think a great presentation is better than a great idea/solution, while some think the opposite is true...So I am wondering what do people think? What value should we put on each aspect of design?

We've been talking about this lately at my company and we've come to the conclusion that it should be both, great ideas backed up by great presentations.
We have done great thinking for many of our projects but the ones that have been most successful are those that looked great because the client was immediately attracted to it.
On a very intuitive level, great presentations prime the client with a better disposition towards the ideas presented, because if they like what they see, they feel more compelled to like what it says.
A similar phenomenon happens in the academic world. As a PhD student one of the things that you learn is that if the format isn't right, your paper is not even going to be considered worth reading. To other fellow researchers and academics, the way a paper is presented is a measure of how much value the author places on the thinking the paper describes.
