Schwab/Panther SP7 Tables

The [D3] Contest is a selection of outstanding work by recent graduates around the world. The show was a refreshing collection of strong individual projects exploring material and process, and mostly self-produced. The work has a exciting sense of energy -- full of new directions, questioning of standard procedures and personal agendas in design.

Seongyong Lee's ultra-light "Plytube Stool" uses a special construction technique he developed during his MA at the RCA, while Schwab/Panther utilized wire-bending production methods in their SP-7 range of tables (above).

Anne Lorenz explored a more personal theme of permanence/impermanence with her cabinet-bag -- "Home Traveller."

Remmelt Dirksen combines electricity and furniture in his "5 Degree Desk" alongside Nicola Zocca's heat Shrink furniture collection and Harry Thaler's aluminum "Pressed Chair."

Combining traditional handcraft and mechanised production, the bouncing rubber structures of Bidum by Laetitia Florin cast intriguing shadows across the pavilion, while a sewn wooden hut, "Bridgitte," by Illanez Schoenenberger is modern, rational and completely charming all at the same time.

Lastly, the unusual material combinations of porcelain, timber and electrical flex give much of the lovely character to a collection of five table lamps by Daphna Isaacs & Laurens Manders.
