Last year, Philips announced the launch of a start-up to commercialize "electrowetting". Electrowetting technology can be used to make displays that are extremely bright and energy-efficient, two critical features for portable devices such as mobile phones, MP3 players and cameras.
Apart from its display and power advantages, this new display technology opens doors for a new product aesthetics as demonstrated by Roman Kriheli's "Communication Pillow", a paper-like soft phone concept.
According to Roman: "It is a soft mobile phone concept. The telephone is encased in a flexible plastic housing. A soft polymer insert is located between the microchip module and the casing. You can drop this phone, or put it in your back pocket and sit on it, but nothing will happen to it. The phone is nice to hold in hand, to dial, and to talk on."

How far away are we from that cool, printable, disposable mobile phone concept from "Ultraviolet"?
