I'll be doing some guest blogging over at Adobe's Inspire site this week around the notion of "looking ahead to 2010," and my first post just went up. Check back in the coming days for more prognostication, but here's the sweet spot on this one:
Predicting tech trends is fun for laypersons of course, but it's big business for a bunch of others. Tech sites like Engadget, Gizmodo, CNET, and their brethren report from the field, then favorites like David Pogue and Walt Mossberg fill in with the color, synthesis, andoftenthe final word. All of this amounts to a comprehensive package of news and reportingway fleshed out with "unboxing" photos, "hands-on" videos and then the obligatory "Features we wished came with version 1" pieces. It's crazy that by the time we're able to lay our actual hands on these magical devices, their narrative arcs have been written, resolved, and in many cases, serialized over several now-codified Acts. Oh, and then there's the proverbial "We promise, iPhone app and desktop versions are in the works!" Can't forget that one.
Read the whole thing here, and thanks to Adobe for the invite!
