A cupboard by Charles and Ray Eames, Los Angeles, 1949
London's Design Museum will inaugurate a century spanning exhibition - Design Cities 1851-2008 - this week to celebrate 150 years of style. Curated by Deyan Sudjic, director of the Museum, it is set to open there on Friday- an array of design and architecture assembled from across Europe, categorised by the city and year of their creation. "The idea is to see design in the focus of the city," says Sudjic. Starting with London, then Vienna, Dessau, Paris, Milan, Los Angeles, Tokyo and London once more, here's a slideshow of some of the pieces. (note, the second photograph is not the Walkman!)
