BEIJING DESIGN WEEK 2012If you're in New York tomorrow, be sure to check out core-fave Peter Hall's lecture at the D-Crit, "Writing Design History: Problems and Provocations." Peter, a design critic, senior lecturer in design at the University of Texas at Austin, and contributing writer to Metropolis, ID Magazine and editor of several books, will "tackle a predominant history that casts design as a profession invented to initiate and sustain a consumer culture of instant gratification through strategies of obsolescence." In its place, Hall proposes "a history that casts designers as mediators, negotiators and troublemakers."
We like the troublemaker part, of course. (But not to the point of heckling!)
