Under the heading of "student design projects that don't really sound like design, but we're intrigued enough to not care," here's a blog from Georgia Tech ID student Krystal Persaud, in which she describes the daily observations brought on by her attempt to go an entire school term without removing any garbage from her apartment.
The earlier posts are mostly just photos of trash piling up in various corners, but as the rhythm gets established, things get more interesting. Creative solutions and observations start emerging,
like turning bits of circular detritus into a decorative mosaic, or decrying the two staples in her tea bag that prevent the whole thing from being composted (monthly recycling and composting trips are allowed under the terms of the experiment). Nothing focuses attention on consumption like being forced to live with the consequences of your purchases -- a requirement most of us have the luxury of ignoring. Worth watching.
