"Who wants to go to South America and destroy the rainforest when we've got material right in this country that's being thrown away?" Those are the words of Josh Malpass, an employee of Whole Log Lumber, a company named a "Growth Business to Watch" just last week, even though they've been in the green business for 25 years.
So what do they do? Whole Log Lumber scours the country for demolished, fire-damaged and abandoned buildings and reclaims the wood used to build them, which is often hundreds of years old. And wood isn't like machinery; sometimes the older wood is, the better the results.
With our antique wood flooring, you can be certain that no living tree has been sacrificed, while embracing the unique elements of authentic antique wood grains that are simply no longer created in trees of more recent origin.
Check 'em out in this RiverWired documentary, as they take wood from a fire-damaged building in Brooklyn (wood that was originally from North Carolina, ironically) and fix it up. It is eventually sold back to a restauranteur in Brooklyn, meaning this particular circle of life has just lapped itself.
