Mattel has gotten a lot of bad press these days, but a two-page spread in this month's issue of FastCompany puts the toy maker in a positive light. Illustrations, photographs, and Alissa Walker's copy take us through the designer team's investigation to build a smarter package. The awkward twist-ties that once bound Barbie's limbs are replaced with clever die cuts. And the new box is resealable which encourages Barbie fans to keep it around and not throw it directly in to the trash.
If you can't get your hands on a hard copy of FC, an online slide show can be viewed here. And don't miss the sweet Hot Wheels package in the last frame--it has a second life as a mini skate ramp!

Barbie is looking very beautiful indeed. I would check out the online slideashow
Don't know about Barbie looking beautiful, she still seems to have that hyper-blonde vibe about her. And her hair is too long. They maybe need to start looking at releasing Emo barbies now, and barbies more suited to the generation (ok, maybe emo barbies are taking it a little too far!). At any rate, I never really understood the Barbie craze. My girlfriend didn't either she always preferred My Little Pony. Barbie is too expensive!
