This massive LED screen, dubbed the Zero Energy Media Wall by Greenpix, is supposed to be unveiled this month in Beijing. Said to be the world's largest, the screen is also self-sustaining--it collects solar during the day, then uses the juice to fire up the LEDs at night.
Even more surprisingly, the ZEM Wall is apparently intended for digital art, and not advertising. Whether it will come off as planned remains to be seen--the demo video is disappointingly bogus, with CG overlaid on footage of a New York City expressway instead of Beijing. This we cannot understand--if the company's in the midst of installing the thing in Beijing, can't they send someone across the street with a camera, to record footage for an on-site demo video?

It seems like a waste of harvested electricity.
There was an episode of Scrubs, where Bob Kelso wins a lifetime supply of muffins. And halfway through the episode, orders a blueberry muffin, and then throws it away as soon as he gets it. Then says to the guy behind the counter (possibly Cabbage) "Because I can!"
Kind of feels like the same situation here.
And I'm sure the IDSA would have something negative to say about it.
