Although CES is a commercial venture, it's good to see that the Consumer Electronics Association recognizes the benefits of greenery and has devoted a category to it: Eco-Design and Sustainable Technology. Take a look at three of the winners.

Belkin's Conserve Energy-Saving Surge Protector solves the problem of "Vampire power;" hit the remote switch and disable power to whichever switchable outlet you want, while leaving constant-draw appliances unaffected.

Eton's FR500 Solarlink Emergency Radio can be powered by batteries or a power cable if you live in the "first world," and by a handcrank or solar cells if you don't. The AM/FM radio also comes with a flashlight, emergency beacon and siren, and was produced in conjunction with unlikely bedfellows The American Red Cross and Porsche Design.

Freeplay's ML-1 Mini Lantern can also be powered by both electricity or handcrank, and the LED bulbs--both space-illuminating and directional--are rated for 100,000 hours. (That's 24 hours a day--for eleven years!) It's also got a dimmer switch on it, which can both help your bulbs last longer and make the cave look more romantic.
