Oh Dior...what have you done? The oober fashion house just launched their first cell phone targeted to the Chinese and Russian Markets with a cool price tag of $5,000. (?!) As an added bonus, the phone also comes with a handy "My Dior" miniature no bigger than a USB key. Made to be clipped to the outside of a bag and communicate with the main phone it frees up perfectly manicured nails from rummaging through unsightly purse contents (ahem).
The rational behind all this? Dior Chief Executive Sidney Toledano stated,
"In the same way that we have developed our watch and jewelry lines, we want to increase sales with the phone...What really convinced us was seeing the attention people in emerging markets pay to buying a phone, by selecting the color and design."
Or being brainwashed by fashion marketers. Yikes. Such blunders are enough to make ya' croak. Seriously. Former Dior director, Yves St Laurent, actually just died.
