I just had one of those moments where I feel like I'm living in the future, prompted by watching a German commercial about an Italian appliance--specifically, the Bugatti-designed Volo toaster. Check it out (starts at 0:17):
And my "future" feelings aside, yes, I know, the Volo's actually from the past. (It came out around 2007, but if you never heard of it either, give me a cyber high-five.)
Uh, if "living in the future" is code for "oh my god, please keep smiling and touch that bagel button again!! muhwah!!!" then I am right there with you...
1. The user interaction on this is terrible. Excessive motors and ridiculous button controls, not to mention unnecessary size for a TOASTER.
2. Why is Bugatti making such a terrible product? Stick to cars.
To me, that's like asking NASA to design a guitar for Elvis and aside from that, this toaster functionally reminds of the BMW iDrive. What happened to the classic lines and timeless function of the simple two-slice-push-down toaster?

I always feel we're taking a step backwards when we hold up automotive stylers as bastions of design.
Then we have a winner!
