ID student Luke Pannell's invention is pretty timely. A recent study shows that athletes suffer more from air pollution than couch potatoes, which makes sense since the former is out there sucking in air while the latter is watching news reports about it from the La-Z-Boy. Pannell's device is called the Breathe Air, a powered personal air respirator.
Intended for cyclists, the device integrates with a bicycling helmet and is designed to be more comfortable than your average respirator:
Breathe Air has a polycarbonate shield that cups the user's face but makes no contact with the skin, with clean air blown over the cyclist's face behind the shield.
Pannell, who suffers from hay fever, designed the device after realizing there's nothing like it on the market.
