Swedish furniture giant Ikea is trying to make inroads in Japan by advertising in one of that country's high-traffic areas: train interiors. The Kobe Portliner Monorail will serve as a rolling Ikea catalog until May 6th; click here to check out the pictures.

Well, IKEA certainly needs all the help they can get in Japan. It's their second try now to get into the local market, and they're making all the same mistakes as the first time - a bit of marketing isn't going to cure the fundamental problems with their attempts to sell in Japan.
I'm no furniture marketing expert but it seems pretty obvious to me that IKEA is failing (again) in Japan because:
1. City dwelling Japanese have no room for bulky, unnecessary furniture
2. IKEA shops are huge and very distant from the city centers
3. Few Japanese own cars, especially cars large enough to carry anything from IKEA
4. Japanese refuse, point blank, to pay for delivery, which every Japanese shop builds into the price - IKEA refuses to drop their delivery fee
etc etc, I could go on but you get the picture.
awesome now bums can sleep in style!! :)
