The paltry few bucks I spent on this magnetic knife rack, from a local restaurant supply store, was well worth it. Having my most commonly-used machine repair tools easily identified, easily accessible, and most importantly wall-mounted above the workbench that can get out-of-control cluttered with machine parts, is a vast improvement over hunting and digging.
Chicago-based product design firm MESH (formerly known as TT Design Labs) wants to do the same for your everyday carry and/or desktop items.

Their JustMount is a little round-edged magnetic box that mounts to your wall and holds whatever's got metal in it. For your phone, there's a little buy-in required—you'd need to pick up their TidyTilt magnetized case if you want to hang your iPhone—but for anything else that's got metal in it, you might find the JustMount handy for keeping things off of cluttered horizontal surfaces.

You might wonder why not just stick with the magnetic knife rack? Those come in a minimum size of 12 inches, and while they're fine for the workbench, they're a little ugly for the home office.
MESH, by the way, is a product design firm that's struck Kickstarter gold not once, but twice: The TidyTilt clocked $223,174 on a $10,000 goal earlier this year, and while the currently-pledgeable JustMount is at a more humble $12,000 on a $10,000 goal, there's just about a month left to pledge.

One thing to consider - using magnetic racks will magnetize whatever you stick to them. That can be a plus or a minus - magnetized screwdrivers are usually handy, but can be a no-no for some electronics work. I won't keep my kitchen knives on them for that reason, being magnetized makes it hard to sharpen them (the metal you are trying to remove during sharpening sticks to the blade - plus they tend to grab the knife out of your hand and smack the edge around every time you put the knife back).
