Folks, we have seen the future...and unfortunately, it's kind of ugly. Recently touted in TCT Magazine, which reports on "Software and technology for product development and marketing," was the "cutting-edge contactless card payment solution" pictured above, designed by i4 Product Design.
The PoS Paddle Tap-It device allows consumers to quickly wave their credit card (or cell phone, depending on what country you're in) in front of the device to ring up a payment. We don't doubt that this is more convenient than swiping or handing the card over to the cashier, but Jiminy Christmas, does the thing have to be so fugly? I think MacGyver has cobbled together more attractive things than this!

they didnt follow the branding guidelines correctly for the label either. the contactless icon is supposed to have a lot more white space around it and be the same size as the card company logos.
this thing is silly. at our wholefoods once you swipe your card they still make you punch in your pin code, so basically this really amazing technology just saves you from rotating your card 90 degrees to swipe it through the slot.
I don't suppose they thought about what PoS might stand for when they were naming it, either.
