German design studio llot llov (you've probably seen Matt, their knitted lamp), are showing several new works in Berlind during the DMY design festival next week, alongside their friend (in from London) Phillipe Malouin. This exhibition also marks the opening of a new showroom in their space.
Though the invitation doesn't specify which new works wil be on show, we can guess, from the flyer, that it will at least include James, a tripod that turns large bowls and plates into side tables, and probably also Luci, an updated hanging basket) and Tea, a series of wall knobs based on high voltage insulators.
If you're in Berlin, catch their opening party on June 11 at 7pm at their showroom on Mulackstrasse 12. More information on the party and the exhibition duration and hours here.
More images of the project (and detailed descriptions from the designers) after the jump.'Luci' is best defined as an up-to-date hanging basket. Four metal rings are knotted into a macramé net, forming the structure into a cocoon. A common flowerpot is to be placed into the lower ring. The draining hole is plugged with a cork, offering the possibility to drain superfluous water when needed. The big macramé loops offer the plant enough room to grow past the restrictions of its cocoon, inviting it to climb if wanted- thus rendering cocoon and plant into a single unit. The reduced braiding technology used in the macramé contradicts the common prejudice that this handycraft is old-fashioned and hanging baskets are gadgets solely reserved for grandmothers: 'Luci' resurrects both, the object and the handicraft, catapulting it back into the living room in a new interpretation, including some fresh greenery.
With 'James', llot llov has designed a true servant with the ability to be set up in any given place. The small, three-legged table is connected through a riveted joint. There is no need for a tabletop as a single plate is turned into an individual tray within the twinkling of an eye. Plate, bowl or vase, are transformed into objects hovering in space. The wooden sticks keep everything in balance while the rubber-topped tips diminish the danger of sliding crockery. If you like having your snack in bed, in the garden or sitting on the floor you will find that 'James' is your true partner. After use, the effective butler is stored without effort, folding easily back into a handy format.
The three sculptures 'Thomas', 'Edison' and 'Alva' offer an arty alternative to decorate a wall. Their eccentric shapes have been adapted from high voltage insulators. Usually, these are made out of ceramic to isolate the fixing of electrical conductors. By hanging all of them on a wall, their varying shapes have the effect of creating a dynamic picture. Further, they could be used as wall knobs. Due to its size, 'Thomas' also serves the purpose of an easy and practical alternative to a clothes hanger. It is available in black. With its delicate shape, 'Edison' can also function to hook a hanger. It is made out of Ash wood which gives the technical shape an almost feminine touch. 'Alva' has a soft white surface and therefore stands out. It too is suitable as hook.
