Before you retch from the idea of spending the night at IKEA when you can barely stand 2 hours, keep in mind that Norwegians absolutely adore IKEA. They love it so much that it gets more traffic than one of Norway's largest attractions, the Holmenskollen ski jump!
One of two IKEAs in Oslo made flatpack-lovin' shoppers really happy when free-of-charge overnight stays at the megastore became an option for a selected 30 persons each night for the duration of a week. According to company spokesman Frode Ullebust, it's like "an alternative hostel." There's a shared dormitory area with lots of beds, separate family rooms, and even a bridal suite and luxury suite, where breakfast in bed is served. Lazy waker-uppers were warned, however, that if they were still lounging after the 10am opening time, customers might impede on their snoozefesting to test out a mattress or two.
