Peter D'Alessandro's Waste and Want chopping board
Posted by: Jeannie Choe  |  Comments (14)

wastenotboard.jpg

UK-based designer Peter D'Alessandro has come up with a clever solution to chopping board woes, mainly the grievance caused by unwanted mixing of waste scraps and edible parts to be kept. Two magnetic trays sit at either side of the wooden board--one to collect waste and one to collect chopped pieces. Waste and Want's removable trays contain both what you want and what you don't for easy transport to the plate, pot, or wastebasket.

perfect idea! but have a problem ... we need more space for chopped pieces.

DerekAugust 17, 2007 09:23 AM

I like it too, but I agree, more space for pieces and for chopping! It is so tiny.

hoosAugust 20, 2007 01:29 PM

So do I!, but larger please.
Or, for that matter, different sizes.

Brilliant idea, cheers, Hoos.

Interesting concept. Might be more useful if the trays were larger.

SuzanneAugust 20, 2007 05:35 PM

Great Idea....manufacturing these???

rogerAugust 23, 2007 09:14 AM

Brilliant: simple and efficient! I want one :-)

shirishAugust 30, 2007 09:05 AM

nice, but i feel there are a lot of pieces to clean after

RichardSeptember 3, 2007 05:41 PM

I want one!!!

AgnesOctober 15, 2007 12:46 PM

Love it!

joeNovember 1, 2007 04:40 PM

thats rad

dont listen to the negative "make it larger" collection

i have cutting boards smaller than one of those metal things.

People aren't thinking experientially- its not a storage device obviously and as you cut the basil or onion or whatever it could be immediately dumped into the pan or bowl or dish then the metal thing is replaced on the cutting board. Voila an infinite amount of room to place chopped stuff.

And plus if teh metal got bigger on top of the already large wood part where the hell would you put it in the garage?

anyhow brilliant design man. Love it.

brennanDecember 3, 2007 06:37 PM

The ridges on the side of the board would make most cutting and slicing work difficult. The container for the prepped foodstuffs should be much larger than the waste side, and should preferably have multiple compartments. Other than not designed for people who actually cook, it is a neat concept. needs much refinement though.

kJanuary 15, 2008 05:47 PM

love it!

cdJanuary 18, 2008 04:25 AM

brilliant!!! but the border seem to make the cutting activities limited....what do you think?

charlotteFebruary 8, 2008 03:59 PM

Brenann from below, stop moaning bout things that are un-necessary have you read joe's idea of emptying the thing? great design, simple and is everything it needs to be
