Radiator Mug by Stephen Reed

Stephen Reed's Radiator mug leaves palms unscalded. (Dependent on judgment level, tongue scalding may still occur.) The finned porcelain design delivers a one-two punch of beauty and function. Handle who?

Available at Charles and Marie at $25.00 each.

thanks deskster!

I can see how the mug would reduce the heat to the hand both because of the thicker material where the hand will touch and the greater surface area to radiate the heat. However, this would seem to have the effect of COOLING the beverage, not keeping it hot. The greater surface of the mug will act like a heatsink, removing the heat from the beverage at a greater rate than a traditional mug. Not quite perfect.

the raised ribs on the mug will actually cool the hot liquid faster. take a look at the heat sink on your computer's processor... same idea.

Isn't the idea of a radiator that it has a large surface area to let the heat disperse? Won't your tea get cold?

is it dishwasher safe or easy to clean?

FixgearJanuary 8, 2008 1:07 PM

scalding? its called a handle!

JasonPJanuary 8, 2008 2:30 PM

What a fantastic design. It combines old (porcelin) and new (industrial design). Design with a function at its finest.

RobJanuary 9, 2008 1:23 PM

Jason: It goes against function. The increased surface area brings your beverage to room temperature faster than a normal mug.

how about cold drinks? eliminating hand contact should reduce heat transfer to a beverage, right?
