Rosendahl Ice Scraper by Erik Bagger
Posted by: Jeannie Choe  |  Comments (7)

Erik Bagger's Rosendahl Ice Scraper not only looks a lot nicer than your average scraper, but it was also designed in cooperation with physical therapists to ensure ergonomic comfort. The soft side is effective for dew while the hard edge releases frozen ice off the glass. One concern would be getting to the center of the windshield without that crazy telescopic extension pole...what if you have really short arms? Oh well. Available at Yanko Design for USD $28.95.

Where's the leverage? Physical therapists probably also warn about the adverse effects of using a lever or an inclined plane. Those of us who scrape our windows on a fairly regular basis for 4 months of the year are content with our $6 scraper/brush combos that actually work. How are you supposed to get the middle of the windshield without jumping on the hood of the car to reach it?

I agree. It doesn't look like the designer has ever used a scraper in his life. It doesn't look mitten friendly. And I think I'd need scraper teeth before I ever needed a squeegee for my windows...isn't that what wipers are for?

what he said,
sure it looks nice, i might even like to own it as an object, but I'm sure it would quickly find its way under my passenger

Good Christ. I hope someone's medical insurance will pay for their $28.95 ice scraper.

One of my friends has this and it's been working out great. We live up north by lake michigan so it gets plenty of use. The $6 dollar scrapers work great until they snap in half. Also, it's no fun if the first thing you do during the day is scrape your car- so having a nice looking and fun object like this makes it a little bit more bearable.

Oh! You are all so correct. I've actually owned one now for a few years. It is certainly lovely (It is beatiful and riduculous, I HAD to try it out). Of course, one cannot reach the middle of their windsheild without pulling his/her back or falling onto said vehicle. Even with a 76" reach there is no leverage for ice and you need a vice like grip to hold it steady. And Laura is right... you'll find the need to take your puffy gloves off to even use it and thus enjoy snow up your sleeve. It's a whimsical little thing... the Juicy Salif of ice scrapers.

I certainly wouldn't be able to reach the middle of my windshield since I drive a fullsize pickup, but that's not to say I've never driven a car that I couldn't reach the center. So it may not solve everyone's problem. It would surely be comfy in the glovebox of a BMW. I also don't think the "teeth" are totally essential. It looks as though it is made of aluminum and the edge should hold up for a long time and still be able to bite into the ice. I'd worry more about potential scratches depending on what material he used. I'm assuming it's been tested.
