It's kind of funny that back in the day, if you were an industrial design student and your model of your design lacked a certain amount of detailing, you would have been accused of doing a half-assed job; but now even commonplace objects have moved so far towards minimalism that the following sparsely-detailed model (or is it a rendering?) of a theoretical Holga digital camera looks high-end:

The concept is by designer Saikat Biswas, who's not a student, by the way, but a pro ID'er based out of Scandinavia. And Biswas' "Holga D" is not just an under-thought plain box--to the contrary, he's put lots of nice touches into it, like the reversible top that swaps the shutter button around for lefties:

We're also digging the swoopy little mini-flash:

Biswas has also put up some of his original sketches.

Be sure to check out the rest of the Holga D concept, and the thought that went into it, here.

hi
would anyone know what was used to render these? 3dsmax? because they look amazing
Well the super minimal design is striking; but then I realized that not only does the camera have no LCD display, it also has no optical viewfinder - so not only are the pictures "a mystery" as in a film camera, until you download them, but it seems, its a mystery what you're even framing as a picture!
Nice concept,
but for a digital Holga still too many features.
@bothands: I thought the same thing, but then I went and looked at all the renders on the actual website and saw that they have rendered a viewfinder, that attached where the flash does, so you couldn't use the flash and the viewfinder at the same time...that being said, I actually love that there isn't an LCD, that's part of the draw of a Holga to begin with, the lack of features and the simplicity of the camera make you really think about the composition of the shot, and its also about the mystery of what it will look like...I own a Holga and love it...and I have to say that I would buy this in a heartbeat...please someone actually manufacture this! Please!
are there any sample images? I'm kinda facinated about this :)
It's hardly minimal, aside from the aforementioned details that are lacking, its actually got a lot of detail -
just cos everything's been squashed flat it doesnt make it minimal... all the typcial functions and mechanisms are still there!
Absolutely wonderful. A real throwback in terms of design to what cameras were a half century ago (and arguably, what hey should still be). Unfortunately, I've actually got a camera a lot like this one (an old Leica MD2 film camera), and the lack of a viewfinder is a real bother. Still, autofocus might make a model like this useful.
I really like the idea. I come from Hk. I will be grateful to assist on the production of this product. I am in marketing field. May be I can help little. : )
I'm not really a Holga fan (to put it mildly), but I can see why someone would be attracted to the character of the photos it produces.
The 2 negatives I see are: no viewfinder (and seriously, why not?), secondly the fact that it is not film. The point of using expired fast film to produce the images are what I'd expect to see; digital noise is horrible, but film grain has a great character.
