The Iron Dog is a grueling, 1,971-mile snowmobile race across Alaska that takes place every year. Though the event has been around since 1984, it's been getting recent press attention due to the involvement of Todd Palin (a guy who's married to some woman in politics).
While Iron Dog racers can have sponsors, this isn't like Formula One, where drivers have teams of mechanics prepping their vehicles in luxuriously-outfitted garages; racers like Lahka Peacock & Daniel Paajanen do the "wrenching" themselves, hacking, modding & prepping their machines for the brutal and subzero journey, in their own workshops.
