Granted this has nothing to do with industrial design per se and it looks like the beginning of a Michael Bay movie, but how can we not show you the first high-def pictures of the sun?
Picture captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory.... Red indicates cooler areas, while blues and greens show hotter regions. SDO (Solar Dynamics Observatory) is on a five-year mission to capture data that will help scientists learn more about the impact of solar weather on the Earth.
The picture looks a lot different than the sun outside my building right now, but you know what they say: A full-disk multiwavelength extreme ultraviolet imaging camera always adds ten pounds.

Amazing pictures, but why would they make the cooler areas red? Is there any practical reason?

They probably just used the visible light range as a measure of temperature since that'd make the software development of the camera a lot easier. Red = cold, Violet = super hot. Just a guess, I could be completely wrong though.
