You think you've got a tricked out bike? A rack and some panniers are laughably meager compared to some of the homegrown ingenuity found on the streets of India, where bicycles are routinely turned into shops, snack stands, grocery stores, garbage trucks, and just about any other sort of commercial structure you can imagine.
Velowala.org is the website of an Indian visual archive of bicycle-based commerce, and now includes about fifty examples that may or may not blow your mind. Above, from top: bicycle-based payphone center; bicycle-based knife-sharpening business; and bicycle-based boiled chickpea vendor. Perfect for ten minutes of inspirational viewing on a slow Sunday. The site is seeking to expand its archive as well, so any photographic, audio or video recordings of other velocommerce are welcome.
