Steve Jobs posted an open letter yesterday regarding Apple's failure to provide its "customers, shareholders, employees and the industry" with detailed insight into eco-efforts in removing toxic chemicals from its new products and recycling of e-waste. Jobs continues to list what Apple has already done, what it's working on now, and plans for the future.
We apologize for leaving you in the dark for this long. Apple is already a leader in innovation and engineering, and we are applying these same talents to become an environmental leader. Based on our tangible actions and results over time, hopefully our customers, employees, shareholders and professional colleagues will all feel proud of our ongoing efforts to become a greener Apple.
Greenpeace replied with a solid, "Way to go Steve," but made sure not to let Apple off the hook, pointing out its heavily US-centric computer-take-back program--a lagging effort behind other companies that have already implemented worldwide programs.
