I've played with Surface and it feels very disconnected because of the lag. Also, it's a box, not a table-- you always have to lean in. Might be fun in a Vegas nightclub or in Japan, but it suffers from typical Microsoft shoddiness in the areas that matter most.
Why does Microsoft surface look like the iPhone? Interesting how the zoom funtion is also the same. Do you think that if the iPhone didn't already exist that people would know how to zoom in on a photo without being shown? My guess is no.
Microsoft has been showing off Surface in various forms for years now it seems - yes, even before the iPhone. Not everything is blatant rip off of Apple. Now why so many companies are moving in a single aesthetic direction is maybe the better question. Be nice to have some variety.
Speaking of Apple, I wish I could've caught the video, but you posted it in Quicktime format. Too bad QT is such a pig of software.
Besides that, Surface looks great in a demo, but it seems like it was concieved in a closed environment. The advantage that the iPhone offered was advancing the trend of mobility. Surface, so far, is a tabletop computer interface. Not exactly a lifestyle changing innovation.
NURB - Apple didn't invent the iPod interface, what makes you think they invented the iPhone interface?
