DCA Design International -- Garden Groom

DCA Design International's entry for the BDI West Midlands Design Award 2002 was the Garden Groom, which received the category award for Industrial Products and also scooped the overall winner award for Product Design. DCA has a multi-disciplinary approach, which allows for a complete turnkey design service or a single specialism or group of skills. This integrated style has led to consistently high quality and commercially successful products, such as the Garden Groom.

Beating a record-breaking 150 entries, DCA took the award for overall winner of Product Design and the judges were quoted to have been highly impressed with its consideration of human factors and awareness of market demands.
Since its introduction in 2001, this unique machine has enjoyed incredible interest and much media attention worldwide, picking up a recent Good Design Award from the prestigious Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. The Garden Groom is in great demand all over the country and can now add the BDI West Midlands Design Award 2002 to its long list of accolades and will be available to buy in early 2003.

Devised by inventor Graham Wilson, the Garden Groom is ergonomically designed and electrically powered and unlike a conventional trimmer, it has a rotary blade concealed within the body making it safer to use. Made of lightweight plastic, the Garden Groom measures only 75cm long and 30cm wide and has an almost futuristic appearance. It not only cuts and shreds but all waste deposits are collected in an inbuilt receptacle rather than on the ground. It is hoped that this revolutionary machine will make the tough task of hedge trimming much easier for all gardeners.
