Gibson Product Design Inc. -- Mythoso

Canadian Design Wins Top Innovation Award at CES 2003.
The Mythoso series of loudspeakers, created by the Canadian firm of Gibson Product Design Inc. for Definitive Technology Inc. of Baltimore, MD, has won the Best of Innovations Award 2003 for Audio products at this years International Consumer Electronics Show, held in Las Vegas January 9-12. The loudspeaker family, exotic aluminum towers on glass bases, is the latest offering from Definitive, expanding their highly successful line of home theater audio products.

For Gibson Product Design, the award comes as a high point, crowning twenty years work creating the look and feel of products for many of Canadans leading electronics companies. This award is confirmation that we stand with the best in the world, says Scott Gibson, looking back to 1982 when he first opened his industrial design consultancy. We have grown to where we are able to bring vision, judgment, and technical experience into alignment with our ambitions for great design.

Responding to the requirements of Definitive Technology, Mike McGuire, lead designer for the Gibson team, pushed the project from sketch concept to working prototypes in just four months. We're fortunate to have a community of high technology-savvy suppliers around us, Mike observes. So much of the design needed computer-directed modeling and careful follow-up craftsmanship. We made large custom extrusions - machined, hand-polished and anodized. There were simulated plastic moldings made by stereo lithography, so big that they had to be created in pieces, then glued together. Our model makers even fashioned the adjustable feet that lift the elegant glass bases off the floor. The result, a gleaming set of silver freestanding and wall-mounted speakers, perfectly matched to the plasma televisions at the center of tomorrowís home theater environments.
