Merrifield Roberts, Inc., a leading custom fabricator based in Bristol, RI, is currently constructing a massive outdoor sculpture for use as a tearoom. The oval, cylindrically shaped sculpture, modeled using Rhino software and built entirely of aluminum, will rise 30 feet in height, and span an area as wide as 60 feet. The project is designed by Philip Johnson/Alan Ritchie Architects for Sheikh Saud Al-Thani of Qatar.

Currently in the framing stage, the Qatar structure is so large it required Merrifield-Roberts to cut a hole in their ceiling to assemble the sections. The sculpture will be completed in RI, then disassembled and shipped to Qatar by freighter. There it will be assembled on site by a team from Merrifield-Roberts, and painted a "desert hue."
