Concept Arc International, an architecture and interior design firm located in High Point, North Carolina, recently completed a workspace pilot program with a large international corporation, which led to the development of the Toreador Canopy. Using the idea of the workplace as an arena and the worker as the highly skilled bullfighter in that arena, the team developed a freestanding canopy which embodies the grace, sophistication, movement and color of a matador's cape. By freezing the cape's motion the canopy gives life to common areas in an office where people gather for casual meetings, discussions or simply to take a break from the concrete, sand and glass that otherwise surrounds them.
