Dell's internal design group recently teamed up with Herbst LaZar Bell, a design consultancy with offices in Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles, to design the Dell Photo Printer 540, a lab-quality photo printer designed for the SoHo market. The machine prints directly from USB compatible cameras and storage devices, PC, digital media cards, and PictBridge. A 2.5-inch color LCD is visible in any lighting condition and makes it easy to review, select photos, and adjust photos before printing.

Every side of the printer contains user access or functional elements. The user controls, camera and PC connections, paper tray, dye transfer media replacement access, or venting, all have a place in this simple compact design. The 540 is designed for portability, folding into a sleek, compact form with no protruding parts for easy transportation.

Unlike more costly competitive units, the 540 is the only printer of its size using thermal dye transfer technology to print photographs. The finish is glossy, durable, waterproof, smudge proof and long lasting.
