Artefakt, a design consultancy based in Darmstadt, Germany, won an IF Design Award in 2004 for their Light Office desk system. Inspired by the 1953 design by Egon Eiermann, the new system retains the minimalism of the original, while making a few enhancements for a modern workspace. The frame is powder-coated bent steel with covered plug-in and screw-in connections to keep lines clean. The diagonal supports adjust the height of the table from 64-76 cm, and the inherent strength of the rectangular cross member allows the use of a very thin (13 mm) desk top, contributing to the lightness of the design. Light Office is available from Cairo via mail order for 248 Euros.
