Bresslergroup -- Vocal Smoke Detector
Bresslergroup, a design consultancy based in Philadelphia, won a 2005 International Housewares Design Award in the Home Environment Electrics category for their work on the Vocal Smoke Detector for client Kidsmart Inc.
Calling attention to the primary differentiating feature of the Vocal Smoke Detector -- the use of a loud, high-quality recording of a parental voice that makes the device the first product that is scientifically proven effective at waking children in the case of a fire -- the design team integrated a speaker grill that is reminiscent of pro-audio equipment. The Bresslergroup team wrapped the technology in a kid-friendly package using soft forms and neutral colors that help it blend into any children's room décor. A full-circle LED light pipe illuminates when the alarm is activated, or when the device is in fire drill mode.
The Vocal Smoke Detector has been featured in numerous publications and on TV and radio nationwide. The Vocal Smoke Detector is sold at a retail suggested price of $79.
