Product Development Technologies (PDT) recently completed work on a project for Sanford, a leader in writing instruments, art products and office organization, to develop a series of paint pens to add to their Foohy Brand product lineup.

While paint pens are not a new idea, a design aimed to accommodate the way kids use paint and brushes had not previously been attempted. An ergonomic study was conducted to learn about children's dexterity with brushes, resulting in a paint pen with a larger diameter and broader 'squeeze area' throughout the grip. In addition, a specific paint flow mechanism was designed to make it easy for kids to dispense the paint to the bristles.

The paint colors found in the Foohy pens can be seen through a fun mix of transparent material and colored plastic. As a bonus, the cap allows each pen to stand upright on the table, encouraging children to keep their play area neat and organized.
