Patton Design, Inc., a Southern California based design firm, has recently partnered with dental laser technology developer and manufacturer, Biolase Technology, Inc. to create the Waterlase M.D. Dental Laser, a state-of-the-art surgical tool bound to substantially improve procedures in laser dentistry. Patton Design's expertise in design, engineering, and human factor technology enabled both hard tooth tissue removal and coagulation of soft tissue to operate effectively within the same device. This combination of vital functions decreases the likelihood of bleeding and pain sensitivity during various surgical operations.

The hand-held laser tool's LED illumination source of ultra-bright white light creates bright shadow-free illumination of the operation area. It's ultra-fine, continuous and low-pressure water spray provides better control over tissue-cutting operations. Waterlase is the smallest, most powerful, and most ergonomic dental laser to perform fast, anesthesia-free dental procedures. It has recently received a Medical Design Excellence Award as well as an Industrial Design Champion Aware form the American Electronics Assocation.
