Wherify Wireless is a California-based developer of wireless location products and services used specifically for child safety, parental supervision, personal protection, Alzheimer and memory loss supervision, law enforcement, animal identification and property asset tracking markets.

Their newest development, Wherifone, is targeted mainly towards pre-teens and teens, and can be very useful for senior citizens and those with special medical needs. Wherifone integrates Triband GSM cellular technology for 2-way voice/data communication with Enhanced GPS (E-GPS) technology for location tracking. GSM is the most widely used cellular technology in the world, making international use possible. E-GPS is basically next generation GPS, offering better signal strength and considerable savings in cost and energy. Wherifone is exceptionally portable, weighing only 70 grams with a thickness of 13mm and a perimeter the size of a business card.

Over 80% of phones purchased by parents for children under 13 are for safety and monitoring reasons. Wherifone can receive all incoming calls but outgoing calls are limited to the 5 programmable buttons on the interface, keeping phone use restricted and airtime costs down. The phone can be quickly tracked by calling Wherify's Global Location service center or by using their web tool. The good old days of hanging out at the mall- wait, I mean- library are well over. The parent or caregiver is given an approximate street address and can even do a series of locate requests, commanding the phone to locate itself every 5 to 10 minutes, showing the path of various locations the phone and its carrier have been to over an extended period of time.
