Idesign AB -- Alstom X60

Swedish industrial design consultancy Idesign AB achieved the winning bid for X60, the newest commuter train design to be released for manufacturer Alstom. Key design concerns were floor level, service accessibility, safety, and speed, along with the ever-present demand for high calibre aesthetics and security. The resulting design has a swift, streamlined appearance and becomes a welcome and future-forward addition to its target city of Stockholm.

With a total of 12 cars, the train can accommodate 374 seated passengers and 565 standing. The X60 boasts a 107-meter long multiple electrical unit, allowing passengers to safely walk the entire length of the train from front to back. Thanks to an advanced distribution of power, the train achieves a faster acceleration and retardation speed than most sophisticated rail transportation models today. The low floor level makes boarding and departing much quicker and easier when travelling with children, luggage, and for those with mobile disabilities.
